Commissioned
I made this set for myself — it's my first. The blades were provided by Kris Cutlery; all the rest of the work is my own.
Daisho - The scabbards are black and clear-lacquered spalted maple with Micarta throat, tip, and kurigato. The copper furniture is finished rough and heat-colored. Tsuka is black-dyed rayskin, traditionally wrapped in silk braid.
Tsuba - Solid copper tsuba has pierced flower designs and applied sterling lady bugs each side. The seppa are hand filed, and the copper is heat-colored.
Tanto Tsuka - Solid copper tsuba, copper fuchi with applied sterling lady bugs, and hand-filed seppa. The kashira is copper and Micarta. The rayskin tsuka is unwrapped, and the mekugi is copper as well. The white diamond is a naturally-occurring raised nodule pattern on the back of the ray.
Katana Tsuka - Rayskin is wrapped with silk braid in a traditional diamond pattern and lacquered; this wrapping, along with the rayskin and embedded menuki, provides a non-slip grip under the most gory conditions.
