Flint & Obsidian Knives

SkinnerThe stone blades in this collection were knapped by Ed Vanover, a well-known local flint-knapper and rockhound from Tucson, Arizona. He has given knapping seminars to archeologists and anthropologists from the University of Arizona, showing them how it was, or could be, done. Most of his stone (obsidian excepted) is heat-treated prior to knapping, which produces a more resilient blade and vibrant colors.

Larry met Ed in 2000 at a local gem show and bought a few blades from Ed to 'play' with. These knives are put together more from an aesthetic than historically accurate view, but they all fit the hand like a real using knife.
