Magua's Bear-Head Knife

Sold: $725

This knife was created as a companion for the Magua Tomahawk, and is based on movie stills and photos of the prop weapon carried by the character Magua in the 1992 movie 'Last of the Mohicans'.

The 5.25" hand-carved curly maple grip has the open-mouthed bear effigy and is pinned to a 10” long by 1.25" wide forged half-tang carbon steel blade. The handle has brass pins in a primitive double cross pattern, and the blade has a dark, worn patina. Brass tack eyes complete the carving.

The sheath is wet-molded rawhide leather, hand stitched and shrink-dried to conform around the knife, with a hand-loomed, glass-bead decorated throat. Tin cones with red horsehair tufts dangle from a bone bead string at the throat and along the edge of the sheath.

Overall length of the knife is 16”.
