This elaborately inlaid powder horn is a cross between the St. Louis style of the Fur Trade Era and an illustrated children's book.

This piece was carved from an old American bison bull's horn with a very solid tip and walls. The spout is hand-carved with a horn collar attached to the neck. The collar has seven inlaid faux-ivory dots. The smooth polished body has seven inlaid dots, and the base has an inlaid pattern draped from the base pins.

The flat base plug is mesquite with an inlaid, relief-carved moon figure and three stars and eight inlaid dots. There are a total of 56 inlays.

The pierced spout plug and strap finial are turned from deer antler with brass tacks on the ends. The finial sits on an inlaid mammoth ivory base star.

This powder horn curves slightly but can be carried on either side.

The horn body is 15" long and the bases is 3.25" diameter.
