Native American Style Bison Powder Horn For Sale

Price: $190

Add to Cart

This horn is unique, but based on several historical examples. A simple scraped-smooth body, with a tightly fitting spout cap stretched and formed from a single piece of wet rawhide. The perfect companion to a plains rifle.

A flat pine base plug was foced into the heated horn, but instead of pins, a wet rawhide cap was sewn in place and allowed to dry, shrink and harden in place. The cap was then decorated with paint, aged and oiled for water and air resistance.

A braided elk strap secures the spout cap to the base cap, and three horsehair drops are attached and wrapped in wet rahide.

This powder horn can be carried on either side.

The powder horn is 11’’ long along the back curve, and the base is 3’’ in diameter.
