Powderhorn with Oval Base for Sale

Sold: $225

This horn appealed to me because of its very slim oval section and mottled coloring. A classic representation of an early powderhorn with a fixed turned spout. The gently curved horn has a nice twist for left-hand carry. The simple spout is turned from two-toned ebony, and is secred with wood pegs. The carved strap groove has an iron strap keeper. A rosewood fiddle-peg spout plug closes the end, and is secured to the strap keeper with a red deerskin thong

The horn body has an aged honey color with a greenish tip. The low-domed walnut base plug is secured into the horn base with seventeen cone-topped brass tacks, and has an large twisted iron strap ring, secured to the base with iron staples.

The horn body is 13’’ long, and the overall length is 17”. The base plug is 2’’ x 2.75”.
