Forged Clay-Hardened Top-Tang Skinner

Sold: $400

This is a very unusual and elegant knife. The large and gracefully recurved blade is hand-forged from W2 steel and clay-hardened to produce a subtle hamon. The blade was hand rubbed to 2000 grit and then gently etched to reveal the hamone. A checkering file was used to serrate the spine above the grip.

The integral tang extends from the top of the spine and is forged perpendicular to the blade. The tang and the back of the blade were then inlet into a solid block of hard maple. Two Loveless bolts were inserted vertically to secure the grip into the tang, ground flush, and the grip was then carved to shape. The grip is stained a dark rosewood.

The sheath is made of heavyweight leather, wet-molded and hand-stitched, with a carved and stippled panel and a two-tone finish. A separate belt loop is stitched to the back of the sheath.

The blade is 6" long, 1/8: thick and 1.75" wide at the belly. Overall, the knife is 11.25" long.
