A simple but elegant single-edged Scottish stocking knife in stabilized birch burl. The burl grip is turned and flattened, with a solid hand-filed nickle-silver guard. A tiger-eye cabachon is set into the pommel.

The blade is hand-forged Damascus, with 17-layer sections of 15N20 and 1095 forge-welded to either side of a thick section of 5150, until 013 layers were achieved. The blade was then forged and filed to shape, and polished and etched, with a serpentine file pattern along the spine.

The sheath is carved from poplar and covered in pigskin and deer hide.

Total length of the piece is 8", with a 3.5" blade.

From Wikipedia: The sgian-dubh (skiːənˈdu, skee-ən-DOO) is a small, single-edged knife worn as part of traditional Scottish Highland dress along with the kilt. Originally used for eating and preparing fruit, meat, and cutting bread and cheese, as well as serving for other more general day-to-day uses such as cutting material and protection, it is now worn as part of traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible. The sgian-dubh is normally worn on the same side as the dominant hand.
