Forged Spontoon Pipe Tomahawk (Commissioned)

Commissioned Work

A large spontoon pipe hawk, hand-forged from a ball-pein hammer with a Fleur de Lis theme. This tomahawk is completely hand forged and shaped from carbon steel. The round pipe bowl has a wedding band lip and octagon base. The eye is heavy, with a double fuller filed at the base of the blade. The blade is fitted with a rawhide gasket. The blade is finished in a plum brown patina.

The haft is curly maple, stained dark, with a Fleur de Lis pewter upper band and a center pewter plain band. The lower section has a swelled grip with deerskin wrist strap. The mouthpiece is turned with an antler end piece. The cleanout plug is turned ebony.

The blade is a hefty 9” long overall and 3” wide across the rolled processes. The hawk is 23” long from mouthpiece to plug.
