Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Chingachgook's War Clubs

Commissioned

I was contacted by the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes (www.massfallenheroes.org), a charitable organization dedicated to honoring veterans and fallen soldiers of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. They requested I provide four Chingachgook war clubs for an awards presentation, based on the movie stills and photos of the prop weapon carried by the character Chingachgook in the 1992 film 'Last of the Mohicans'. Probably the most recognizable weapon in the film, and used in several of the battle scenes, including the climactic final fight with Magua. However, it was requested that the clubs receive a natural wood finish rather than the traditional blue paint, and that a two-sided commemorative medallion be inlaid into each side of the butt.

The large club is hand-carved from straight-grained maple, stained dark and then finished with several coats of hand-rubbed oil to bring out the beauty of the wood.  A circular pattern of decorative brass tacks accent the butt below the blade.

The broad trade spear-point blade is formed from weathered ¼” steel, forged, pierced and patinated.

The club is 36” long and 5” wide at the butt. The blade is 4.5” long and 2.5” wide at the base.
