Bowie and Boot Knives (Inspired by 'Quigley Down Under')

ihese knives were inspired by movie stills and photos of the prop weapons carried by the character Matthew Quigley (Tom Selleck) in the 1990 movie western (Australia) 'Quigley Down Under'. These weapons, much abused in the course of the movie, were prominantly featured.

The Bowie has a hand-forged 1095 steel blade with an elk handle. The guard and beveled pommel are hand-formed of nickel-silver bar. The blade and guard are heavily patinated, as was the original prop weapon.

The unique and complicated sheath is crafted of heavy leather and hand-stitched with artificial sinew. The lower face of the sheath is covered in embroidered sack cloth stitched to the sheath with deerskin lace, and the upper section is decorated with a hand-loomed, battered and beaded "moccassin" toe flap. Leather ties hang from the side.

Overall length of the Bowie knife is 13.5”. The blade is 1.5" wide and 1/8" thick.

The Boot Nnife is quite unique as well. The forged 1095 blade has a straight-backed patinated blade set in an octagonal walnut grip, decorated with two integral poured-in-place pewter bands. There is no sheath for this blade, as it was literally carried in the character's boot.

Overall length of the Boot Knife is 9”. The blade is 5.25" long, 7/8" wide and nearly 3/16" thick thick.
