Original flask (Powder Horns and Their Architecture, Madison Grant, pg.107)
Price:$225 (Shipping Included)
The inspiration for this flask is found on Page 107 of Powder Horns and Their Architecture. I was fascinated by the idea that someone possibly lost his powder horn and had to replace it, and while there were no cow horns available, there WAS access to a forged bolt.
The flask is constructed of two hollowed slabs of oak, glued and bolted together with a hand-forged square-head bolt and square nut. The bolt and nut are recessed flush to the surface. The wood cavity is waterproofed, as is the bolt penetration through the body. The neck is reinforced with tightly-wrapped iron wire. Two forged iron screw eyes are provided for strap attachment, and the primitive antler spout plug is secured to the flask with braided artificial sinew.
This is an historically accurate but very unusual powder flask that would make a nice impression at the next rendezvous.
