An ulu is an all-purpose knife, traditionally used by Eskimo women, for skinning and cleaning animals, cutting food, scraping leather, etc. They actually make great kitchen knives as well. Originally handled in horn, ivory or caribou antler, with a stone blade, they were later made with metal blades as metal became available through trade.

This ulu is hand-forged from spring steel and patinaed to look old. The integral steel tang is hand-riveted inside the handle. The blade is left rough except for the polished and sharpened edge. The handle is a caribou antler joint, and the blade sits upright in a bone rest.

The blade edge is about 3.55” long, and the knife is 5” tall.
